MakeRoom is a new start up from the team behind RoomFifty. The team wanted to launch a digital product that helps artists easily sell their work directly on their own websites, without all the hassle of material sourcing and order fulfilment.

Understanding user requirements, then technology

__

The MakeRoom team came to us with a solid idea for their new platform but they didn’t know the best way to produce it. We started by focusing on user needs, understanding internal processes, and mapping out potential userflows to quickly get customers signed up on paid plans. The next focus was ensuring users could easily upload and manage their artwork, allowing MakeRoom to efficiently gather product data. We then started to look at the best technology to power the platform, the first version uses a combination of Next.js engineering, Stripe, Shopify and a printing fulfillment API.

A 3 step
signup funnel

Getting users signed up to MakeRoom quickly was essential. Separating the form into personal details, payment plan and finally payment details, allowed us to create a clean & simple 3 step platform onboarding funnel.

A visual
sales dashboard

Artists can log in to their dashboard to get a quick overview of how their product sales are performing. The dashboard clearly displays total sales, total earnings, individual product earnings and product statuses. From here users can also easily add new products and request payouts of their earnings.

The platform has a connected global network of 50+ printers. By printing and shipping closer to the end customer, this drastically reduces the carbon footprint for each artists business.

Simplifying complex product upload

We needed to create a simple UX for product creation and artwork uploads. Prints can be sold in a number of paper types with a wide range of sizes under each type. The UI allows artists to easily expand the paper types they wish to use, then tick the sizes they want to sell. Attached to all these attributes are the cost production and fulfilment prices meaning a user can set their RRP and see the profit each sale would make in realtime.
